Frog Birthday Cake

They had a service auction at church so I auctioned off a custom cake! My fist attempt at making fondant in humidity was HORRIBLE! I might have to retire... after a few hours of trying the little guy came out great but it wasn't without some serious effort. Maybe I'll make cakes again when I'm back in Utah :)

Here's a bit of my process... after carving him the crum coat frosting began. Then I had to freeze him so he could keep his shape and then once frozen I put him on the already made pond which was dark choc cake with raspberry cream cheese filling with a lily pad on top. I usually don't like to freeze cakes however I was nervous he was going to fall apart. I had to work fast! :)

And after some careful gum paste work we have the... Final Product... a happy friendly frog! What do you think!? I painted him with water to give him and the lily pad a "wet" look like he had just gotten out of the pond.. looking back I should have just painted one or the other.. With all the little hang ups I think this guy turned out fun none-the less :) Enjoy! xoxo

Mint Ice Cream Cake

SO yes.. I am guilty of neglecting my husband sometimes when I am a busy baker. However, after I forgot to make him the Mint Ice Cream cake he asked for on his Birthday last year I felt that this year I could make up for that! We decided to take a trip to NYC for his b-day and so staying at my friend's home posed a little different for the kitchen extravaganza this cake would take. SO... I made a dark chocolate-chocolate chip cake the night before we left for NYC. We brought it with us, found some mint ice cream at the grocery store and one cold hand later... I did it! My first Mint Ice Cream Cake! I think it turned out quite Delicious!! It may not be the most beautiful cake ever but it was probably one of the YUMMIEST Delights ever! Happy Birthday Sweetheart... hope this one made up for the one you didn't get last year xoxox

Petal Wedding Cake

The inspiration behind Yarixa & Matt's Wedding cake. Found on Brides.com as being one of the top 50 most beautiful cakes.  Found HERE
Yari wanted this cake but with green petals to match her beautiful wedding colors of green, black and white. It turned out to be a beautiful wedding ceremony and an awesome day! I was pretty pleased with the cake too!! Here's some of the work in progress pics :) Congrats Matt & Yari! xoxox

This was my petal creation station. Since I had never used gumpaste before I did some online tutorials and just started my petal creation station. I made over 1200 petals by the end!!! Luckily I didn't have to use them all but with not knowing how many I would need for sure I was happy to have some extra. Living in DC I also had to come up with a way to take this little beauties on the plane with me.. so with a lot of saran wrap and love they made their journey in a special tuperware inside my huge yellow purse!

Our original flight was canceled due to storms so we got in town Monday at 9pm with the wedding the next day at 8am and reception at 6pm so it was close to an all nighter for me decorating. This is not my usual "cake studio" but thanks to my wonderful MOM!! for baking all the cakes and letting me use her kitchen to decorate we made it work.

The cake was a dark chocolate (Danny's favorite) with a YUMMY ganache moose filling that was to DIE for! I had to make a few extra cupcakes for myself and the family!

She ordered 150 cupcakes along with the cake. I think the cupcakes turned out ADORABLE!!

Final Product! It's a keeper.... I wish the picture could show how green it was.. on here it looks like a mint green but the actual color was a lime green that really stood out beautiful.

Finished cake and a happy bride. What do you guys think!? Let me know your feedback so I can improve my skills.

BBQ & Cupcakes!

So we have been invited to a BBQ and I was asked to bring a dessert.. So of course I had to bring Cupcakes! I don't know why but I am in LOVE with these tiny adorable yummy treats. I decided to make a carrot cupcake with carrot slices, raisins, and crushed pineapple. I also forgot to put the nuts in the mix so I just added them to the frosting on top. Then I also made a dark chocolate cupcake with chocolate chips. I topped it off with coco dust and one heart sprinkle :) Enjoy!
